There's something for everyone at the Conquest Theatre. Plays, music, ballet, shows, film and youth theatre as well as exhibitions of paintings and art and costume hire. The Conquest Theatre is home to its own amateur theatre company, but also hosts many professional productions throughout the year.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Conquest receives little public funding. For anyone interested, this is a great opportunity to work on the inside of a live theatre. There is more to theatre than playing the part on the stage. Without the people in the box office, the stewards, those behind the bar or backstage, the theatre would not exist.
Working backstage you have the opportunity to learn new skills in lighting, sound and stage management. In the costume department there are around 1000 costumes, many of which have been made by the wardrobe mistresses and can be hired out at very reasonable costs.
Volunteers are the life-blood of the Conquest and there is always room for more. Full training will be given, whatever your interest.
Please contact us for information on working in the theatre - we would appreciate your support.
For those who wish to take an active part in the life of the Conquest, why not become a member? As well as receiving regular mailings, you are eligible to participate in stage productions, vote at general meetings, take advantage of bar discounts and volunteers may occupy any empty seats on production nights. Contact us to join the Conquest Theatre or download an application form here.
Theatre members are always trying to find new ways to raise money for the benefit of the theatre. Table Top sales are a regular feature in the foyer and Hugh Farey (pictured) recently performed a sponsored recital of Shakespeare's Sonnets. We'll keep you informed of any new fundraising events.
The Conquest has an auditorium with raked seating, which makes it possible for everyone to have an excellent view of the stage. The plush velvet seats are extremely comfortable, as many regular visitors have commented. Since it opened in 1991 the theatre has offered seats for sponsorship or dedication. For a donation of not less than £75, you, or your company, may 'take a seat'. A small plaque with your chosen name will be placed on the back of your seat. You might like to support the theatre yourself in this way, or perhaps remember someone you love, or you might like your company to demonstrate its support of the arts in the local community. Please contact us if you are interested.
Whether you are paying to join the theatre of making a donation if you fill in a Gift Aid form it allows the theatre to reclaim the tax.
